If you’ve been living under a rock, you may not have heard of the New York Times bestseller Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. This book has been receiving critical acclaim and has been at the top of the NYT Best Seller List for weeks. I recently read this book and wanted to share my thoughts on it with you. So keep reading . . .
Let me start off by saying that this is a captivating story. It follows Kya Clark, a young woman living in isolation in the marshlands of North Carolina from 1952 to 1969. Through her story, we learn about her struggles with loneliness and abandonment while she learns how to survive alone in an isolated environment surrounded by nature. It’s an incredibly powerful story that will leave you feeling inspired and uplifted despite its sad themes.
Go as far as you can—way out yonder where the crawdads sing.
The writing style is beautiful and poetic—it feels like a song or a poem rather than a novel at times. There are moments when the language is so vivid and descriptive that you can almost picture yourself there in the marshlands with Kya as she experiences her life-changing events. It’s clear that Delia Owens has put a lot of effort into creating an immersive story that readers can connect with emotionally.

The characters are also well developed; each one has unique traits and motivations that make them feel real and alive. I was able to connect with Kya on a personal level because she shares many of my own feelings about life and love, which made it easy for me to get lost in her story as if it were my own.
Overall, I found Where The Crawdads Sing to be an enjoyable read—one that I would highly recommend if you’re looking for something inspiring yet heartbreakingly beautiful at the same time. Delia Owens has crafted an incredible tale full of emotion and insight into what it means to be human, making it hard not to get lost in Kya’s journey as she discovers who she truly is in a world where everything seems out of reach but still within reach all at once. Whether you’re looking for something new or just want to revisit your favorite genre, Where The Crawdads Sing is worth picking up!
